Why did the lobes flatten on my Toyota 1KZ-TE camshaft?

Symptom: Ticking noise from the top end, rough idle, and significant loss of power in your Land Cruiser Prado. Diagnosis: The 1KZ uses a shim-over-bucket valvetrain. If oil maintenance is neglected, the friction destroys the hardened layer on the cam lobe, causing it to flatten rapidly. Solution: We strongly advise adjusting valve clearances precisely and replacing all lifter buckets when installing our HRC 60 induction-hardened replacement 1KZ camshaft.

Are Toyota 2L, 3L, and 5L camshafts interchangeable?

Diagnosis: While the 2L, 3L, and 5L belong to the same engine family used extensively in Hiace vans and Hilux pickups, their camshafts are generally not interchangeable. Solution: The 5L has different valve lift and duration profiles designed for its specific displacement and airflow requirements. Using a 2L cam in a 5L will result in poor performance and high EGTs. Always order based on your exact engine code.

Does the Toyota 1HZ camshaft come with the front timing gear?

Answer: Our standard replacement 1HZ and 1HD camshafts are shipped as “Bare Shafts”. The front timing gear is a press-fit component that is typically transferred from your old core. If the original gear is damaged (chipped teeth or spun keyway), please notify our sales team so we can quote a replacement gear separately.
