Technician’s Note: The leading cause of broken crankshafts in C15 engines is a failed torsional vibration damper. When installing a new 221-9360 crankshaft, it is mandatory to replace the vibration damper (harmonic balancer). A worn damper cannot absorb the twisting forces of the 15-liter engine, leading to rapid fatigue failure of the new crankshaft nose or webs.
