The TD04-9B is smaller, spools faster, and is typically used on earlier non-intercooled versions. The exhaust manifolds, downpipe flanges, and oil lines differ between the two.

Why is my Pajero 2.5L blowing blue smoke under heavy load?

Blue smoke is a classic symptom of dynamic oil seal failure within the turbocharger. When the thrust bearings wear out—often due to coked oil feed lines—the turbine shaft develops axial “play.” This allows pressurized engine oil to bypass the seals and leak directly into the exhaust or intercooler.
