In heavy applications like the Fuso FV415 and Kato HD1250, abrasive soot buildup in the oil acts as a grinding compound on the valvetrain. Additionally, wear in the massive timing gear train creates torsional backlash that hammers the camshaft lobes. Our chilled cast iron camshafts are hardened to HRC 50-55 specifically to withstand this abrasive and high-impact environment.
Yes, the ME051209 camshaft is fully compatible with both the naturally aspirated 6D22 and the turbocharged 6D22T engines. The chilled cast iron material and induction-hardened profile are engineered to handle the increased cylinder pressures and higher exhaust temperatures generated by the forced-induction models.
It is strictly mandatory to replace the tappets (lifters) and cam bearings when installing a new camshaft. Mating the new ME051209 camshaft with old, worn tappets will cause immediate “pattern transfer,” rapidly destroying the new lobes. Furthermore, you must inspect the timing gears for excessive backlash prior to assembly.
A worn 6D22 camshaft will result in incomplete valve opening, leading to a severe loss of pulling power, excessive black smoke under load, high exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs), and a distinct tapping noise from the cylinder head. Restoring the factory valve lift with our new camshaft recovers the engine’s original volumetric efficiency.
Due to the size and weight of the 6D22 camshaft, it is coated in a heavy-duty rust-preventative compound, sealed in industrial vapor-barrier plastic, and then secured tightly within a custom-built, export-grade wooden crate. This ensures the precision-machined journals and lobes arrive completely free of moisture corrosion and transit damage.
