The most frequent physical failure is crank snout snapping or harmonic balancer keyway damage. This is usually caused by excessive torsional vibration or heavy accessory loads on high-mileage Patrol engines. Our replacement forged steel crankshaft provides enhanced tensile strength and an induction-hardened snout to combat this.
When installing this crankshaft, critical parameters include verifying main journal clearance (usually 0.035-0.080 mm) and ensuring the main bearing caps are torqued in sequence to 167-177 Nm to prevent spun bearings under high boost.
To withstand the extreme cylinder pressures of turbocharged TD42T/Ti builds, our crankshaft utilizes high-tensile forged steel and nitrided journals, offering vastly superior fatigue limits compared to standard cast iron variants.
